Ethical Biometric Authentication to Safeguard Identity and Privacy
Electronic identity is a growing issue for consumers, organisations, citizen, and national authorities. In the virtual world, anyone with intent can impersonate anyone else.
Private and public organisations that interact with citizen on the internet operate on the hope that you are who you say you are.
Efforts to authenticate identity via information such as passwords, PINs, or objects such as smartphones creates the risk that possession of such information or objects allows the impersonation of someone else.
Who are you, really?
Biometrics are the solution because they allow the authentication of an individual by a unique physical feature, effectively like a unique key we each possess. But using biometrics raises the question of the unwilling capture of such a key.
For obvious reasons of privacy and identity protection, biometrics must use a physical feature that is not continuously dispersed and replicated, such as fingerprints, DNA, and face, which are fine for criminal investigations but are not ethical for everyday use. Consumers and citizen must be able to exercise control on when their biometrics are captured.
To satisfy these legitimate needs, Global ID provides authentication technology based on invisible keys that can only be used explicitly: multi-views of finger veins, hidden and obtainable only with the knowledge of the individual. Multi-views also allow for both anti-spoofing and for very high unicity, thereby scaling security to international level. Authenticity is also protected throughout life because vein networks are stable through age.
A single finger vein multi-view scan uniquely authenticates you to become the most ethical “digital signature”.
For the common interest of organisations, consumers, citizen
With Global ID technology, organisations no longer need to annoy consumers and citizen with a jungle of pseudo-authentication questions and steps, making processes faster and easier. No more time and money wasted re-issuing lost or stolen information nor devices. Less risk of fraud, losses, and data fines. The speed and ease gain allows in-process authentication as needed for a safe paperless continuum.
With Global ID technology, consumers and citizen no longer need to disclose non-pertinent personal data to authenticate themselves. Just one finger will do, and only with their knowledge.
Covered by patents on Cryptography (data encryption and secure transmission), Biometry (multi-view finger vein scanning, processing, and recognition) and Privacy (separation of biometric data from personal data), Global ID technology is available to organisations, integrators, and OEM builders to achieve quick, reliable, ultra-scalable, secure, private, and easy authentication of individual identity.
Biometric authentication is the padlock of personal data
Critically, the management of personal data remains the responsibility of the implementing organisation and is not visible to Global ID. Technology is provided as dedicated hardware (customisable) and software. APIs provide organisations with the tools to integrate Global ID authentication in their processes, from secure physical access to in-process authentication to portable electronic document carrier authentication. Finger capture is possible with dry, wet, or dirty fingers and even while wearing medical gloves (tested with hospital staff).
Engineering collaboration with manufacturers allows for physical integration in machines, or for software integration in processes (ex: secure authentication of financial order operators and recipients).
Furthermore, authentication with Global ID technology can eliminate many headaches for the authorities organising elections as well as for their participating citizen, thanks to ultra-scalable, private, ethical, and easy biometrics.
Indeed, we like to say that the keys are in your hands!
